RedLine Exhibit was a success

We had a huge turnout on October 2 for our opening reception. Many interesting individuals from the art and design community were in attendance in addition to faculty from the University of Colorado, Colleges of Architecture and Planning and the College of Arts and Media. Thank you to everyone who made this possible. Seeing the research culminate in an exhibit and testing the ability of the gallery to serve as a synthesizer of information was quite exciting.

Please join us Friday, October 2 from 7 to 10 p.m. at RedLine (2350 Arapahoe Street, Denver, 80205) for an exhibit of the participants’ research-based work. The exhibit runs from October 2nd to the 9th.

BERGEN::USF

Two of our visits were housed at USF, Maia Urstad and Planet Earth. This former sardine factory is also home to more than 50 other artist and designers in Bergen. It is a collective of creativity.

BERGEN::Planet Earth

Planet Earth, aka Mats Andersen and Øystein Fyxe, have combined their backgrounds in film, photography and music to create a production company that has served clients such as Datarock. Part Bergen Wave remnants, part Bergen music history in general (Google Edvard Grieg), Planet Earth maintains a goal of having fun and challenging themselves by doing jobs they are not quite sure they can pull off. So far, this philosophy is serving them well.

They also inspired some Digiscanners. Andersen making a cameo.

BERGEN::Maia Urstad and Lydgalleriet

Sound space. In visually-dominated professions, we have a tendency to overlook other senses. Maia Urstad, trained as a visual artist at KHiB, let us visit her studio and she followed up with us at Lydgalleriet to view (or rather hear) sound installations on exhibit. Her piece in particular, and a vibration/glass project were impressive.

COPENHAGEN::CopenhagenX and Danish Architecture Centre

Viewing Copenhagen X Projects.

Eva Ørum, former journalist and now Editor at CopenhagenX, gave an hour up to give us an overview of past and future collaborations occurring in the city. She knows the behind-the-scenes of city initiatives, art happenings and interventions.

Danish Architecture Center::Where Ken and I were first introduced to the work of MVRDV in 2003/2004. One of the best book stores, besides Louisiana Museum. We started off our time in Copenhagen with lunch there and admired the mix of old and new achitecture.

COPENHAGEN::Christiania

No trip to Copenhagen would be complete without a stop into Christiania, Denmark’s “social experiment”. Our concensus is that Christiania has had a tremendous impact on the progressive experimentation in architecture and social initiatives within Copenhagen and beyond.

COPENHAGEN::Bosch & Fjord

Rune Fjord, co-founder of Bosch and Fjord, a practice that lies somewhere between interior architecture and sculpture, gave us an overview of the firm’s past and present work. The very day we met him his troupe was launching Culture Camping installation at the Kunsthal Charlottenborg.
